New chair appointed to Alberta College of Art and Design

Calgary... George F.J. Gosbee has been named the new chair of the Alberta College of Art and Design board of governors. Advanced Education and Technology Minister Dave Hancock announced Gosbee's selection on November 30; the appointment will become effective December 9.

"Mr. Gosbee is a well-respected, highly successful entrepreneur and an avid supporter of the community. His business expertise, coupled with his interest in local issues, will be extremely valuable to the college and will undoubtedly guide its development," said Hancock.

Mr. Gosbee is the chairman, president and CEO of Tristone Capital Inc., a company he founded in 2000. He is also a co-owner of The Maple Leaf Bar and Grille in Banff and RK Heli Ski Panorama Inc. A University of Calgary commerce graduate, Gosbee was named one of Canada's "40 under 40" in 2004 by the Globe and Mail's Report on Business, one of Alberta's most influential leaders by Alberta Venture Magazine, and the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year prairies region winner in 2005.

The Alberta College of Art and Design is one of only four degree-granting, publicly funded art and design colleges in Canada. It provides accredited degree-standard education and learning opportunities to more than 1,000 full- and part-time students. The college provides programs in a wide range of art and design studio disciplines together with academic study in the history of art and design, theory and criticism, and related subject areas. In addition, approximately 1,500 students are registered in the college's continuing education courses, including 700 in children's programs.
