Edmonton... Patricia McMillan, a successful lawyer and active community member, is poised to take on a new role as chair of Lethbridge Community College's Board of Governors. She was appointed chair by Dave Hancock, Minister of Advanced Education and Technology, on September 8, replacing outgoing chair Gordon Jong.

McMillan was a teacher in the Calgary school system and is currently a partner with the firm of Peterson & Purvis in Lethbridge. She has served as a board member at Lethbridge Community College since 2001 and is involved with several projects and committees within the college.

"Mrs. McMillan has shown great leadership as an educator, a lawyer and as an active community member," said Hancock. "Lethbridge Community College has a great track record of providing its students with a high-quality, innovative learning environment, and this will no doubt continue under her direction. She brings with her passion for lifelong learning and a strong interest in the role of educational and community organizations in building a strong society."

McMillan has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Calgary and worked as a teacher and librarian for 11 years, before going on to complete her law degree. She has continued her studies in mediation and has served her community through involvement with various groups, including the Legal Education Society of Alberta, Harbour House Women's Shelter, the Child Welfare Appeal Panel, the YWCA, the Blue Fox Association, and the Lethbridge Native Women's Transition Home Society. She is currently a guest speaker at Lethbridge Community College in its Family Studies and Continuing Education programs.
